These small, fast, and low-flying drones are difficult to detect with conventional radar, posing a significant challenge to our border guarding forces.
To tackle this menace, a multi-pronged strategy is being implemented. The first layer is technological. Security forces, including the BSF, are deploying advanced anti-drone systems. These systems can detect, track, and neutralize hostile drones using techniques like jamming their communication links (soft kill) or destroying them with lasers or projectiles (hard kill).
The second layer is procedural enhancement. Patrolling patterns are being revised, and observation posts are being equipped with better surveillance gear. There is increased intelligence sharing and coordination between various security and intelligence agencies to track the entire network, from the sender to the receiver.
Finally, a policy framework is being strengthened. The government has introduced drone rules to regulate the operation of domestic UAVs and is investing in indigenous anti-drone technology under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative to develop a comprehensive and self-reliant counter-drone capability.
